Mayflower House | Beauty in Bloom | Issue 1
An elegant and timeless feel synonymous with the classic and beautiful homes of The Hamptons was the vision for this light and airy space. Originally designed as a formal living and dining room, the owners wanted this room transformed into something functional that could be utilised on a more regular basis. Cue: relaxed-elegant retreat.
To achieve this relaxed New American Classic style we opted for a soft blue and white colour palette paired with navy and incorporating soft touches of pink - a personal favourite from the Lady of the House. We layered iconic prints throughout the fabric selections together with hand-detailed white furniture pieces for a timeless look. A beautiful navy ceramic lamp with a custom ticking stripe shade provides a lovely contrast between the pieces, and soft pink blooms inject a pop of colour amongst a sea of blues.
The owners specified 'no black or brown' hues were to be used in the space preferring to keep it light and bright. In order to add contrast to the colour palette we commissioned a bespoke linen ottoman in Indigo which also grounded the space. We keep the styling simple with a large tray, cluster of vases and stacked home décor books to add a fresh modern feel.
Our hero piece for the room was a beautiful skirted table. A classic skirted table styled with blue and white ginger jars gives an elegant feel to the room. It's also a clever way to add an en masse effect and in our case filled a void previously reserved for a formal dining table. We wanted the fabric for the table skirt to be something really special so we selected a stunning Chinoiserie littered with beautiful florals and birds, we also tied this fabric back into our cushions. The final piece of the puzzle was the styling. We hand-selected beautiful blue and white porcelain, etched glass pieces, elegant silver frames and classic books to create a refined, but contemporary feel. A delicate natural coral specimen takes pride of place at the front - a special request from the Man of the House a new addition to his growing collection.
To complete the story, drapes in ivory were installed to add privacy and frame the windows, together with sheers to soften the French Doors. The overall result is an elegant, warm and inviting space where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the busy household to curl up with a magazine, cuppa, or even an Espresso Martini for a little bit of 'me time'.
At Mayflower House one of the most rewarding things to experience is seeing the pure happiness and even tears of joy on the owner's face when we reveal the completed room for the very first time. This is something we are happy to report was achieved for our very lovely owners. Followed promptly by "This is my room, no kids allowed!".
